The Live Short Story Evenings are held on the 1st Monday of every month, meeting in the conservatory of Rosie’s Wine Bar, an attractive location to be found at 87 Elm Grove Southsea Hampshire PO5 1JF. The doors open at 7.30pm and the fun starts at 8pm!
Ten short stories, maximum 6 minutes each, are read aloud by the writers themselves or their chosen readers if preferred. The listeners, sitting cabaret-style around small tables, vote anonymously at the end of the evening for their top 3 stories, the writers of which will all win a cash prize.
There is a bar nearby and excellent, complementary nibbles are served in the 2 breaks. The evenings aim to finish at approximately 10.15pm. Admission is £3 for listeners and £4 for readers. Write On The Night is an informal evening held on the 3rd Monday of every month, in the cosy downstairs of Rosie’s Wine Bar, 87 Elm Grove Southsea Hampshire PO5 1JF. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
3 themes are given and those inspired to write on any one of them put £3 in the pot and have 20 minutes to come up with a story. After all have been read there is an anonymous vote, and the winner takes the pot!
There will always be 2 opportunities to write/read/win in an evening. Admission is £2 which includes complimentary nibbles. Come along for a challenging and fun evening in a friendly environment!
OutWrite is a day out for writers which we organise 3 times a year. 2 mystery venues are chosen; one may be termed aesthetic, the other interesting. Here the writers immerse themselves in the surroundings and write for a limited time.
As in our other events, there is an anonymous vote taken on the stories read, and money will be won! A huge part of many people’s writing involves research, and also the need to be inspired through different environments. OutWrite addresses both these requirements.
Next OutWrite, for those gluttons for writing and new inspirations! Saturday 13th June – meet at 10 am in the café of Portsmouth Museum, Museum road, Portsmouth – day will end at 4.30pm. Day is £10.
